This week Michelle and Brandi talk about how to “get some” motivation. No really, some practical tips await you on this week’s episode.

Talking About Motivation

  • Disclaimer: Brandi knows she is naturally a motivated person (ENFJ, Enneagram 3w4) and that not everyone can do these things as easily as she can.

MINDSET: Choose to be Motivated

  • Start by thinking ahead and believe that you can do what needs to be done
  • The night before or the morning of, maybe have a notepad where you can put what you want to do on it
  • Write down what you didn’t get to today to start with tomorrow

HAVE A SET ROUTINE (here’s mine)

  • Music: have a playlist for whatever activity you need to work on. Different music has different levels of motivation
  • Exercise
  • Coffee
  • Work

“The reason you put in a set system is to train yourself that when you ______ it means it’s time to be motivated, it’s time to work.”

    • Prepare: Have your tools ready (ahead of time if necessary)
    • “Whatever [process] is going to set you up best for success is what you need to be doing. You know what those things are.”
    • “You know what things are going to make you feel like working and what things don’t”

TRACK YOUR PROGRESS SOMEHOW

  • Brandi uses her own system
    • A legal pad with four quadrants: “To Do”, “Ta Da”, “What I Ate”, “Screen Time”
  • To Do: basic to do list
  • Ta Da: write down all the things actually done that day
  • What I Ate: good for your trying to get better at “food”
  • Screen Time: Netflix, movies, video games (for family too)
  • Keeping track of stuff keeps you motivated because you can see how much you really do all day.
  • Logging what you do also provides proof of your value at your job or to yourself or even clients.

PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR ENVIRONMENT & MINIMIZE DISTRACTIONS

  • Set “focus” time for yourself where you CAN’T be distracted by things like your phone or social media
  • Make it known at work if you need that time
  • Decide when and how long your breaks will be the most effective to your workflow
  • Mind breaks are also necessary

HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED

  • PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE
  • The more you do something the easier it will become and you’ll eventually form a habit

Inspirations, Thoughts, & What We’ve Been Up To

  •  Michelle
    • Halloween, Michelle and fam were “COCO” the movie
    • Getting ready to help a friend move to Vegas
  • Brandi
    • Just wants to be a “brunette Alice in Wonderland”
    • Came back from San Francisco with a clean bill of health from her doctor! hooray!

THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK

“I will admit I am not fully caught up with this podcast, only within the first 20 episodes. However, it’s great to hear Brandi speak and explain all this information with her friend. I am a college student driving a total of 2 hours to my college each day in a round trip. It is amazing to listen to Design Speaks for those two hours each day. Hopefully within the month I’ll be all caught up!”  – @jonlutin on Instagram
