Michell wants to know what in the world “monoline” means in a logo and how logo trends happen, so that’s what we’ll be chatting about this week!

Featured Music:

Brique a Braq – “I Feel It Calling Me”

Haelos – “Full Circle” (mentioned by Brandi)

Thoughts, Inspirations, Opinions, & Quick Takeaways

  • Michelle loves thrifting so much she will do it for close to a full work day
  • Watch out Jimmy Fallon, Michelle is coming for you
  • If you want to scuba in New Mexico, Santa Rosa is the place to do it
  • Brandi watched season one of “The OA”
  • Ambient music in Brandi’s life means she’s in her own head a lot

What is “mono line” and what are the trends of logos and how did they lead up to now?

  • Mono Line: one line, one thickness, often connected in some way
  • Logo trends tend to have pendulum shifts that depend on cultural shifts and mindsets
  • Mono Line can be very useful for use when you need to size it way down (say for an app, etc.)
  • Mono line has a clean look and can be slab serif, sans serif, or script
  • Much like any trend, mono line shouldn’t be used just because it’s the cool thing to do
  • Thanks LogoLounge for this update from May of this year
  • Designers want to go against what’s getting too popular
  • Nostalgia is very big right now
  • Transparency & being more Personable
  • As designers our goal is to stand out
  • “Millennials are most responsible for bringing these trends back into play, and you see it everywhere with the resurgence of tiki bars and speakeasys, and custom products like shaving kits for men. By going backwards, you can pick and choose what you want to bring forward and blend it with contemporary aesthetics.”Bill Gardner (president of Gardner Design and founder of LogoLounge.com)
  • Check out the trend report and see how you can put your own twists on the trends!
