Sometimes Things Just Don’t Work (and that’s okay)

BlogPost47DontWork
Today’s post was supposed to be about some very important things to consider when you’re choosing colors for your designs. Unfortunately, thanks to some unknown ghost in the machine that is my computer (and possibly the internet) most everything I wrote over the course of the past week has been lost. So it looks like I am going to have to re-write it all and save it for you lovely people for next week. In lieue of that post I’d like to speak very briefly about when things just don’t work.

Sometimes planning and organizing doesn’t work out. I spent hours this week writing and planning for what was supposed to be some very valuable content. When I realized that the majority of my work had virtually disappeared, I had three choices: I could say forget it, and not do one single thing (including not letting you guys know where this week’s post had gone), I could kill myself in an attempt to re-write everything and put out a poor version of what I originally intended, or I could take this experience and use it. I think you can figure out which one I did.
What do you do when things don’t work? Do you give up? Or do you try to find some way to salvage where you are? I think in any unexpected situation, especially creatively, that there is always something you can rescue to keep moving. If the idea you had just isn’t working, try something new-use it to your advantage.
You have the creative power to take the pieces of your broken expectations and make something even better, you just have to be open to it.
So today, I encourage you to suck it up when you encounter disappointment and try to figure out new ways to create. Thanks for sticking with me, I value every single one of you and I look forward to sharing more with you. Make sure to stay tuned for Design Tip Tuesday every week and remember, design is a wonderful world. I hope you’ll join me here, because design matters.
